Not quite "en pointe" yet

I think whoever created leotards had a toddler in mind. No other outfit sets off that little, uninhibited figure quite so well. This ballet class was Sydney's first formal instructional setting of any kind. It came along just in time.

I must pay tribute here to the dedication of her family members. At any given class session, there numbered at least three Merritts and/or Colemans in attendance. The one lone bench for parent seating was perpetually at capacity, the other moms no match for Sydney's strangely overzealous cheering section.

One thing I'll always remember about this initial ballet experience is how Sydney towered over the rest of the other two-year-olds. And how on her first day, she looked around and asked, "Where are all the boys?" That's my girl.
