Surprise!

Thank you to all my sweet friends and family members who surprised me Sunday night at McMenamins with a 30th birthday shindig! Drew and Hannah and Shannon had been secretly plotting... My foggy pregnancy brain precluded the notion that anything was "up" and it was so fun to see everyone there in one place, in the sauna that was that upstairs room (holy cow). Some drove from three and four hours away to be there with me and I'm truly touched by that...thanks, you guys. (Sniff.) It's really an amazing thing to walk (unknowingly) into a room full of your favorite people who are all there to celebrate you because they love you - and because you are old.

Afterward, a bunch of us hardy folk landed at the Brownlees to play Rock Band, which was awesome in all its 20-something grandeur. There is something very freeing about throwing all caution to the wind and thumping on fake instruments and hearing Matt Rider and Kristen Greene belt their little hearts out when you know you have just hours left in - I'll say it - the last video game appropriate decade of life. To all you fellow rockers from that night, I'll have you know: I woke up the next morning with "Say It Ain't So" blaring in my head. Blaring.

All in all, a lovely opener to my birthday week...thank you, everyone!
