A lil' bit of catch-up

Since we are so brilliant as to have my birthday, our anniversary and Thanksgiving all fall within the same week every year, I've fallen behind on blogging all this. Here are some highlights from the last couple weeks:

My birthday was quiet, but great. My whole family took me to Benihana, my sacred favorite (and also the site of my first date with Drew). The polaroids we have with this little birthday Buddha candle are now countless.

Sydney is now ALL about singing "happy birthday mama" and blowing out the candles.

Since I was young, I've saved little girly things of mine - just in case I should have a little girl of my own someday. This week, to combat a little spurt of whiny-ness, I decided the opportunity was right to bring out this bag of jewelry for the first time. Sydney had such a great time going through it all, putting it on and declaring herself "so pretty." She now calls this her purse. I loved the lighting of this photo - so appropriate for these first poignant moments of little girl dress-up time.

Our tradition has evolved into two Thanksgivings: one with the Merritts on Wednesday and then we drive to Richland Thursday morning for another turkey day with the Colemans. It works out great for us. Also included in the trip up north was our nephew's 2nd birthday party. Josiah doesn't quite get the present thing yet, but Nick helped him out.

The cousins always love to see each other. Happy birthday, Josiah!

Had to post this pic of Josiah's other cousin, Evan, and his face-off with Nick & Megan's dog, Jake. Hard to tell who won, but oh my gosh, was Evan ever cute.

When we got home, we hit up Zoolights with the Bernsteins. We'd never done that before but really enjoyed it - they really go all out. You gotta love how not one of the kids is actually looking at the camera.

Hayley gets to put that "in sickness and in health" part of her vows to work right away as it turns out: poor Mikey had the long-coming knee surgery on Monday. How convenient for him that his new wife is a nurse! We took dinner over there that night and did our best to keep his niece from climbing directly on the injured leg. Three weeks of recovery ahead: hang in there, buddy!
